The Story

Why I Built Philosophizeme

It started with a simple question I couldn't shake: What would Marcus Aurelius tell me to do with my life after college?

"You have power over your mind—not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength."

— Marcus Aurelius

I'm Sharoz Javaid, an indie developer based in San Diego, California. Like many people my age, I found myself doom scrolling through endless feeds of content that left me feeling more anxious than informed, more scattered than centered.

At the same time, I had developed a deep fascination with philosophy and history. Reading the Stoics, diving into existentialism, exploring Eastern philosophy—these weren't just academic interests. They were lifelines. They helped me navigate the uncertainty of post-college life when everyone seemed to have answers except me.

The Question That Started Everything

One night, after finishing a particularly impactful passage from Meditations, I found myself wishing I could just... talk to Marcus Aurelius. Not read about him. Not study his words. Actually have a conversation.

I wanted to ask him: How did you handle the pressure of being emperor at 40? How did you stay grounded when everything was chaos? What would you tell a 22-year-old who doesn't know what to do next?

That question—that desire for a dialogue across time—became the seed for Philosophizeme.

From Doom Scrolling to Wisdom Scrolling

I realized I wasn't alone. Millions of people spend hours scrolling through content that drains them. What if that same scrolling habit could be redirected toward something that actually nourishes the mind?

What if instead of rage-bait and comparison traps, your feed was filled with wisdom from history's greatest thinkers? What if you could have meaningful conversations with philosophers who grappled with the same questions we face today?

Philosophizeme is my answer to that question. It's an app built with love by someone who genuinely believes that philosophy isn't dusty academic stuff—it's a practical toolkit for living a better life.

Built with Care, One Feature at a Time

As a solo indie developer, every feature in this app represents countless hours of thought, design, and refinement. The philosophical dialogues. The anonymous forum for deep discussions. The courses on self-awareness and values. The daily quotes that greet you each morning.

This isn't a VC-backed startup trying to maximize your screen time. It's a passion project from someone who wants to help people—including myself—live more examined, intentional lives.

"The unexamined life is not worth living."

— Socrates

Join Me on This Journey

Philosophizeme is more than an app to me. It's a way of reclaiming our attention from algorithms designed to exploit our worst impulses. It's about building a community of thoughtful people who want more from their digital lives.

If any of this resonates with you, I'd love for you to try the app. And if you have ideas, feedback, or just want to chat about philosophy, you can always find me on Twitter.

Here's to scrolling with purpose.
