Socrates is considered the founder of Western philosophy. Unlike earlier philosophers focused on the natural world, Socrates turned philosophy toward questions of ethics and how to live a good life. He wrote nothing himself - everything we know comes from his students, primarily Plato. His method of questioning (the Socratic method) remains the foundation of critical thinking and education today.
